Study tracks global rise of GPS apps
Research published in 2017 suggests employers in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada are adopting employee GPS tracking apps at a remarkably consistent rate. From a sample of 2,500, 1 in 3 employees in each country said they have been asked to use a GPS tracking app at work. Businesses in Canada appear to have the most GPS app users, where 39% of employees say they have used the technology. Australia is next with 36%, followed by the US with 32%. In the UK, 30% of employees say they have used a GPS tracking app at work.

Employees frequently use GPS apps when they're off the clock, according to a 2017 study by TSheets. A survey of 400 U.S. workers found that more than three-quarters regularly use the technology in personal apps for activities like shopping, exercise, and checking the latest weather report. Just 23% said they always disable locations services. Top reasons for allowing apps to track location include trust in the app, how useful it is, and how many notifications it sends.
